What Indie-Folk artist, Anna Manotti, originally intended as an eventual band name when she began playing shows in 2015, the name “Hollan” has taken it’s own path entirely. While weaving through various places and collaborative projects in the last several years, “Hollan” has stuck and become the umbrella term used to describe Manotti’s solo work.
The twenty-three year old Pennsylvania native has spent the last decade trapping concentrated feeling within the borders of sound and word, mostly laboring songs into life inside her bedroom. Having picked up the guitar at age twelve and beginning to song-write shortly after, Manotti always knew she wanted to pursue music in some capacity. However, it wasn't until 2018 that she decided to pursue a professional career in music for all it’s worth.
What sets her music apart from most, is not only her strikingly smooth voice and memorable melodies, but her undeniable ability to cut straight to the heart of the listener through her songwriting. UK music blog, Balloon Machine, describes her as, “A writer capable of inciting emotion from even the most stony-faced.” Hollan often draws on the folk style of using storytelling in her songs to connect to the listener. Producer Justin Grimaldo, notes “Anna’s songs each stand on their own, and that is all one could ever hope for in writing timeless pieces,” in her feature in TheBurg Magazine.
In addition to her recent experiences living in Northern California, Germany and traveling Europe, Manotti’s influences come from life at home in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, as well as folk music that ranges anywhere from that of Feist to John Denver. She has played on both coasts of the U.S. and in Germany at weddings, live music venues, festivals, house shows and city streets alike. She has opened for artists such as Tiny Desk features, Lowland Hum, Florist and Buck Meek (of Big Thief) and continues to pour her soul out to strangers through her music as often as she gets the chance.
Hollan's debut studio EP, "Ready as the Day," was recorded and produced in Humboldt County, California and released on streaming services worldwide (including Bandcamp, Apple Music, and Spotify) on October 2nd, 2019.
